JPs strategy by doing this is twofold , we get to market sooner ( 2025) hopefully while the high prices remain and then we can build the cashflow that goes toward the carbonate plant, probably somewhere around another 250 M of additional capex cost for the carbonate plant component. It’s not a one or the other approach but a staged approach to build cashflow quicker also at a lower Opex risk also .

By getting to cashflow sooner you also have greater ability to use debt in the carbonate capex stage which further saves on dilution . This is why a few here on the forum think getting fully to carbonate production down the path with a staged approach may keep shares on issue sub 600 M which would if achieved would be a master class in bringing a project fully into full production without diluting shareholders significantly .

The author here bangs on about this a lot because he heavily backed a company a company called degrey mining and they discovered arguably the biggest new gold deposit in Australia in recent years at their Hemi site .

However while said author has done pretty well out of it because there was a lot of misadventure by the company and giving away shares Willy nilly in the early days they will like hit production with well over 2Bn shares on issue which puts a massive cap on the amount of share appreciation is possible with the project even with the multi billion dollar npv they are drilling out .

This taught the author first hand having management savvy enough to this issue and being creative in how to get to cashflow sooner rather than latter with less share dilution in the long run makes an enormous difference to your potential upside . Most of the boards on the asx honestly are not this entrepreneurial and don’t give a toss as long as their next director fees are paid . For mine Jp here understands this concept ( probably because he owns a ton of shares himself and doesn’t want to be diluted to buggery in getting to the finish line like this author experienced with degrey ) and this is unusual on the Asx .

So for mine he is absolutely on the right path strategically with going for a staged chloride approach first then moving onto carbonate .
