The actual statement from the company in Sept was:
"The Company remains on budget and is targeting to achieve first battery quality lithium carbonate product next month."

AFAIK this has nothing to do with a specific customer's requirement, it would likely be a "general" BG spec re % Li2CO3 and impurities. The term "qualification" in this industry typically relates to a customer determining the suitability of a product, which IIRC is a multi-stage process that takes months.

I expect that the same process as the pilot plant will apply here - first product was Tech Grade, then after some fine tuning etc, a "generic" BG spec was achieved. Sure, now they know the specific requirements from at least one potential end user customer (from those early days), so they may target that same spec this time around, off the bat. The "qualification" process will still need to play out though, afaict.
I'm not sure exactly how the spot sales process works with BG chems; I suspect the seller lists the min spec (% LI2CO3 and impurities), and buyers either accept it or not; and it may require some further refinement to meet their exact spec..?

In any case, yes, BG "directly" from the plant is surely not far away now, and this is a major milestone imo.
If our first shipment was earmarked, I'd expect the company would need to announce this..?
