    His change of mind over policy matters has been well discussed here and in the press, I don't intend to waste my energy doing that.

    You also said:

    "Abbott does not need to have any policies until the election is called."

    And there lies the opposition's problem.

    I had said this before too: the opposition cannot just say the government's policy on so and so is no good without showing the public that their alternate policy is better. It is not good enough just to criticize, they have to show they have something better.

    An opposition party that has no credible policies so close to an election has no chance of winning an election, unless the incumbent government self destructs.
