Over the years, lots of major corporations have been hacked (like Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Twitter, Toyota, Exxon Mobil, Uber, Costco, Equifax, AT&T), and a lot of them even leaked very personal information, like address, credit card information, social security numbers. Every single one is these companies is still around.

Medibank isn't the first, nor will it be the last, to get hacked. Not saying it's right, but people have short memories. Will people still talk about this, or even remember it, a year from now? As long as Medibank are transparent with their communication and they make genuine attempts to fix their cyber security, they can regain the public's trust, although it will take some time.

Another thing companies really need to look at is data retention, and why or how long they need to hold onto user's data. Why they need to hold onto data of former customers? Why do they require so much user identification just to open a new phone plan? But that's a longer topic.
