What we are witnessing are the ongoing death throes of the Russian military machine and probably the Putin regime as well. We are also witnessing the end of the idea that Russia is - or can be again - a genuine superpower. The battlefield defeats, the economic defeats, and the geopolitical defeats that Russia has suffered since 24 February 2022 are terminal for the Putin regime. Of course, once the prognosis is known it does not mean that the patient expires immediately. The various stages of grief need to be worked through, and the discomforting reality of where Russia now finds itself needs to be digested and accepted by Russians at all levels of their society. This takes time. It takes time for the shock to wear off, for the dust to settle, and for the true picture to emerge. Russia has suffered a devastating loss of prestige. As the Russian identity is now closely associated with the personage of Vladimir Putin, this enormous loss of prestige is most greatly suffered by him. He is now vastly diminished in the eyes of all. I can’t see any way back for him because Russia has certainly lost its war in Ukraine. A war is lost when a nation can no longer achieve its war aims. Russia cannot now subjugate all of Ukraine. Russia cannot now humiliate the US and the collective West. Russia cannot now awe and cow the rest of the world with its military might. Russia cannot now be taken seriously as a global superpower. Any land and resources that Russia may end up with as a result of its military adventures in Ukraine will not offset the devastating economic impacts caused by the loss of its export markets in Europe. With the loss of Kherson city, the war has reached a tipping point. Ukraine has demonstrated yet again that it can win back its territory if supported. This is the most important victory because it has shown that Ukraine can methodically grind out an outstanding result over time and following a patient and sound strategic plan. The boost Ukraines victories have given to the Western alliance is the reality that all the support has been vindicated by the results achieved. Russia will not be able to stem the tide of support because they have not shown they can render it ineffective and redundant. This is just another reason why the war is irretrievably lost by Russia at this point. How much longer the war has to run is unknown. For Ukraine, the periods of most danger were February / March and July / August. They have come through the greatest danger and cannot lose the war from here. The independent sovereign state of Ukraine exists and will go on existing.

What if russia was to turn the screw a bit? According to sources Russia have not used more than 10% of their military might as Putin's advised he does not want to level Ukraine. Nor take it over. By rights they don't even need people on the ground. Might be hear say - but perhaps the west should start listening to their "enemies" rather than repeating this old "they hate freedom" rhetoric. You might be hanging for a nuclear war in the end Crub but no one else is, well maybe your Nine Hey you guys decided on a battalion symbol yet?
