Mike definitely said in a recent interview that they won't be able to lay facebrick but I believe he was merely trying to curry favour with people new to the technology who would cry out about job losses.
i seem to recall(though can't prove it) Mike or mark actually said in an older interview that they already had Hadrian laying facebrick but mortar was difficult to work with due to inconsistencies in viscosity of the slurry. So they elected to go for adhesive instead due to its superior strength and simpler application.
pretty sure they could arrange a consistent mortar to with enough time and money thrown at the problem.
