Rather than complaining why not learn to trade?
Once you learned a sector, that knowledge will help you make a killing shorting and scalping, and it is not contradictory to be a long term holder.
Being long term holder but not even considering shorting and scalping is like buying an residential property, never move in and renting somewhere else.
