You lend me 100,000 Shares.
I either give you back 100,000 Shares ( plus interest )
or
Instead of returning the Shares to you I buy the 100,000 Shares you have lent me by paying you a cash sum we agree upon (plus Interest for time lent) and I keep the 100,000 Shares.
