some of the people on this thread really need to study a little history, the chinese historically were pushed by law to limit the type of business, wether they had a right to own land, and the type of business they were allowed to operate, this occurred throughout the 1800S while the western world expanded economically--and it happened in australia as well.
as for being australian its a state of mind ,acceptance of the equality our society offers today ,if you wish to assimilate and enjoy the rights the democratic society of australia offers,i work with people from all over the world and meet people from all over the world of every so called race and religious persuasion and many have complimented me,telling me i am not a prejudiced, and i inform them that i am a rascist if you wish to cling to your culture and bad habits without attempting to assimilate and enjoy the diversity of benefits available as an australian then i dont want you here, immigrants buit this country no one talks about the afghans if indeed they were afghans who came with their camels but were not allowed to bring a wife many partnered with native australians and the first mosque was built in the middle of australia.
there are many young australians today who cling to a racial identity its something i find disgracefull born here
lived their whole life here and refer to themselves as chinese, indian, asian, etc we are all australians first with a
freedom of choice that should be valued and protected.
my workmates tell me this is the best country in the world,i have never been outside australia and do not feel any need to travel to find cultural diversity, you see its already here and i think it is fantastic that people can celebrate their cultural ancestry without living it everyday and we get to share it,cuisine, competitive enterprise, experience both historic and social influencing the ever changing culture that is to be austarlian,we should all celebrate the diversity of our society.
to think 30years ago there were communities that had never heard of mozarella cheese its endless be gratefull fore the very positive influence the diversity of australian culture.
my big introduction to diverse culture was 6 years living with what i can only describe as a eurasian she is so aussie today she has forgotten most of the 6 languages ,english is her main language, and i must say time spent with her and her friends and relatives from around the world i learnt first hand that rascism was alive and well, however it changed my outlook significantly,
people are just people
