can't really compare this to other LVADs imo, if you look at their presentations you'll see what this device does is augment ailing flow rates, not actually physically help pump the blood.

so you can achieve a massive increase of say, 60% flow rate using shc's pulse thing - but on a seriously ill patient with blood flow rate of 1L/min that still only makes it 1.6L/m - which as far as the patient is concerned, still means he's screwed. heartmate by thoratec actually pumps for your heart, so can raise your flow from 1L/m to 3L/min. that's how I make of their situation.

on the other hand they say they can also target the medium heart failure market. but seriously, if you're only on class II heart failure, which means you're still live and kicking, albeit will find yourself out of breath more often and tire more easily, would you want an operation to stick a tube out of your tummy, and walk around with it indefinitely just so you feel normal again? plus there's already a device that's been met with acceptance in treating class II heart failures on the market. you gotta be realistic about SHC's chances.

that's just how I make of the situation tho, only had a brief glance at the presentations. advise you to do more research as I"m a total newb at the market game.
