If you take the time to understand TA it makes sense, but nobody is going to sit you down and talk you through it. Even if they did, it wouldn't make much sense until you sit down and watch how it plays out. It would be like learning to surf or fish from a textbook.
If you assume that gaps up happen suddenly and spontaneously (which is observable), and that it's either coming from excited holders or unresesearched new holders jumping onto a "good thing" (which is logical), then it's more in short-term than long-term interest. People will hold while it's going up but be quicker than normal to sell up if the profit is disappearing and, with greater urgency, if the new shares look like falling into the red. "The red" will be unusually based on the gap as it's the top end of the gap that the new money started buying.
If you keep your mouth shut and your eyes open, you can increase your holding without putting in more of your hard-earned or take back your capital without give up any shares. If pip trading seems silly, think about trading 200,000 shares, when each pip is worth $1000.
