The previously drilled main hole section is being plugged back and abandoned. In most countries any well bore with hydrocarbon bearing zones must be plugged and abandoned following strict guidelines......ie all hydrocarbon bearing zones must be isolated from well bore by plugs.

Bridge plugs? These are generally only used where a balanced plug isn't working....and usually only if a retainer is run and doesn't work. They're also used for temporary abandonment and other situations such as tracing casing leaks. The abandonment plugs they'll be running in Kumuyu-1 will be balanced plugs as will be the kick off plugs.

Re cementers......99% of the operators I've worked with over the years keep at least one cementer at the rig. Where they haven't, cementers have been able to be mobilized at short notice within a few hours.
