you could of course read it entirely differently- that the people who vote green are typically younger and better educated (a fact based on demographic research). They may well have simply had enough of outdated angry politics dominated largely by angry, white, old men who do things as they always have done.

the world faces an entirely new set of challenges dominated by technology shifts, radically different demographic profiles, changes in power balances across the world and, whatever the cause, disruptive climatic conditions. We also see substantial changes in value systems for better or worse. But all these factors mean that what once seemed like good sense is not improving life conditions at all other than for a small proportion of the population

you can be aspirational as much as you want and vote for the party you think represents the aspirations you have (think liberal which supports wealth) or see everything as a tussle between masters and slaves, the oppressors and the oppressed (read traditional labour) or you can get with it and realise that politics needs to change radically to respond to this new world

personally I’d rather that labour recognise that the green shift is a clear signal that they need to work more socialist principles and environmental problem solving into their mix - but suspect that Dan is doing exactly that and it’s why he has been re-elected

and before you get back into it. Social democracy is not communism or nazism You just have to exercise a bit of intellect to understand why
