Just google "CBOE volatility index" and you will get all the volatility indexes along with any other necessary info to understand them.
This is the most accurate market indicater for all the indexes. For example, The code for the "Russell index 2000" is RVX.
VIXes let you know straight up which way sentiment is running. If a VIX is going higher it means more panic = more options in that particular index as people and institutions cover themselves.If a VIX is low like the SP500 VIX at the moment its showing good confidence and a bull market.
