I certainly agree with your assessment of the Religious Right having too much say in politics,'Scotty'. Such influence -or control-should be eliminated if possible, no matter what the nature of the politics.
I'm not a fan of Jordan Petersen. He's articulate, appears very knowledgeable in his sphere of learning, but seems to have morphed into a know-it -all guru. But one thing he's absolutely correct in, is his assertion, the Far Left have infiltrated Western Universities. I can vouch for at least one.
I came face-to-face with them as a drama tutor in a regional University back in the mid nineties. They tried a 'take -over'/hi-jack, of the Drama Dept. There was a student rebellion against it and they backed off. I had discussions with the Sociology Professor who was also involved in the Drama Dept. She told me right out, their aim was to 'quote' 'subvert and de-construct' 'Capitalist' society'. Now we may all have views on whether it should be, and to what extent. The important thing is, what is it to be replaced with?
I attended a dissertation by a Masters student in Sociology at one stage. Now, I have Masters degrees in History and Theatre Studies, and I had to engage in a wide study of differing movements, styles and a range of ideas, all in depth, which my theses had to encompass.
At this Sociology dissertation, the candidate may as well have been reading from the 'Socialist Workers Weekly'. I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd thrust her clenched fist into the air at the end of it.Three sociology staff were on the stage with her, and, boy, did they look smug.
The scariest thing of all, was how it was received by a big audience of students. Must've been at least a couple of hundred.
They took it all in as gospel.Like a sponge, soaking it all up. Later, I thought, these students are going out into teaching, public service,Universities,Media, etc. Eventually they'll end up in positions of control, responsibility, policy development et al.
This why today, in my view, a Far Left view of how the world should be, is the now dominant orthodoxy in society.
My fear is, if it isn't counter acted soon,we'll end up essentially, voting democracy out of existence.
Bigotry and intolerance of anything not in accordance with the 'Party line' will receive short thrift.
Politically, I regard myself as left of centre. And its the 'Broad Left' as I term it, which will suffer most from what I call an insidious socio-political anti-democratic cancer, because the right wing of politics will tar all the broad left, with the same brush.
