dear JoJo - so sorry about your friends in Britain - that's the fate for us all - eventually - but life goes on.
I may have said this before on here: but when my husband died so relatively young (55) and unexpected and sudden - I was devastated for a long time - and kept going to work - on automatic - one day I was in Hay Street getting lunch and realised that all these people walking, talking, hurrying, laughing etc. now will be replaced by a totally different crowd and it will happen imperceptiblyU-, each an individual fate, each missed by a small group of people . . . and the new people get onto the assembly line . . . . etc.
There is a wonderful song, unfortunately in my Austrian dialect, but I might translate it
Can't you hear
how time is passing?
Yesterday
people talked in a different way
the young ones got old
and the old ones have died
and today's become yesterday
and tomorrow will soon be today
Can't you hear
time's passing
