I nominate Malcom Fraser as the worst Australian Prime Minister.
His contributions as Minister for the Army during conscription for Vietnam and his role in bringing Mugabe to power in Zimbabwe give him the advantage of being covered in blood in this competition.
Whitlam was merely incompetent. However the people got what they voted for; an active socialist. If he had have had a little more time he would have bankrupted the country. The Family Law court, Murphy as a High Court judge, the Khemlani affair etc were terrible. But who who could deny the wisdom of Medicare.
Whatever you thought of Whitlam, Hawke or Keating at least they were awake at the wheel, they knew where they wanted to drive. Fraser wasted years of government. The Fraser years were wasted years.
Fraser's born to rule aristocratic back ground, like purchased army commissions belongs in the bygone history of another country. Fraser would be a close contender with General Slim for the worst leader of any type that Australia has suffered.
Fraser has left a stench on the Liberal party that even Kenny couldn't wash off.
