Why not disable your VoiceMail as an experiment? Set yourself free.
I'm in Russia. No VoiceMail. And I didn't have access to it when I previously lived in Thailand and India.
At first, I missed VoiceMail but only through habit.
What do people use instead:
1. SMS - either from the sender directly or my Telco sends an message with details of missed calls
2. Text/Voice message in Viber/WhatsApp/Telegram. I use these apps on my phone and laptop
