Please don't take this as a jump on your comments, but the whole point of the global conversation shifting to nuclear power rests of the "real" costs of using fossil fuels. That is, the garbage bill the world now faces as a result of never, ever, factoring true costs.

The current line of political/business thinking is to assign a carbon tax for the garbage bill, though unfortunately the sort of tax regime the civilised world has been suggesting is nowhere near the mark. Indeed, the understatement here suggests it's not much short of a big lie compared to the dramas ahead with the real costs of the cleanup bill. Incidentally, a bill that future generations will be stuck with. Passing the buck to the next generation, if you like.

And as for energy densities, nuclear is a no-brainer compared to fossil fuels.

You know, load up a nuclear submarine with fuel, and do ten circumnavigations of the worlds oceans with no need to pull into a gas pump.

The US Navy are not dumb, they got over the fossil fuel thing years ago, and given the higher capital costs of building nuclear ships, it certainly wasn't for the reasons of needing cleaner energy. Rather, their forward thinking means they can prosecute war in ways of their choosing. Whereas the dumb thinkers stuck in the fossil fuel age, well, they have to find a gas pump. Cheap gas, yes, but it's pretty dumb thinking as a strategy for survival

So it goes in the civilian world too.
