Not knowing the context exactly, I find this quote interesting;
“you will know when your daughter is on the drug because of the diarrhoea”.
Surely given there is no other treatment available, you would know your daughter was on the drug for all the behaviour changes providing a better way of life rather than or far out weighing just the diarrhoea?
On a side note, one of the most common side effects from drugs that work inside the body involves the gastrointestinal system, nearly any drug causes nausea and upset stomach.
