The negative ones have brought about most of their woes upon themselves, in my opinion. They cannot fit in, and they and others will come up with a myriad number of 'reasons' as to why this is. The number 1 reason is neglectful parenting, aided by the myth that white man hasn't done enough, or that none of this would happen if their lands hadn't been taken from them (Uluru Statement paraphrased).

Another hard to swallow truth is that Aboriginal Elders - whom we are supposed to respect in the Acknowledgement of Country - have done virtually nothing in driving home the absolute necessity for youth to get an education, to become literate and numerate, and to stick at it. This is how every other culture on planet Earth has succeeded in the modern age.

The average unemployment rate of Indigenous Australians across the country is a mind boggling 50% (source: Australian Financial Review). The average amount of tax shelled out in their direction amounts to $2,000 p.a. per non-Indigenous employed persons. The amount of tax spent (or wasted) on Aboriginals is a staggering $60,000 p.a. per Aboriginal person.

We don't seem to be getting much bang for our buck. But if 'breaking the mould' is the way to solve an underlying general failure to take responsibility, well, good luck with that. That's like pushing the proverbial uphill with a rope. Noble, but not likely to move the needle.

Hi @Tapdancer, you make a very literate case for the status quo.

It is very hard to be positive when rejection is ingrained and you feel like a second class citizen.

I wonder if many people know that PTSD can be passed down through generations, yes it may sound like another crazy excuse, but it is real. SOURCE.

Hence the trauma that many still suffer as a result from the very real stolen generation.

Perhaps a little compassion rather than judgement could go a long way to healing.
But it must start somewhere.
