Two things; firstly there are no restrictions on talking about intentions and plans. The Co wouldn’t be committing, it’s just what they want to do, where they want to go as a business. It’s not pumping, all decent co have forward plans or guidance for SH, it’s telling the market where ICI is heading. Yes they need to be careful with wording and yes they run the risk of then delivering or they’ll look stupid. Honestly who would prefer silence over a management team that commits to its goals? No brainer.
Second the current SP does matter to people. I could have got my SH at half the cost and believe me that is not an insignificant amount of money in my world. (Should I not have supported the ICI 18 mths ago? Should we all have not supported the ICI back then? )Now I know that is the risk of playing stocks and I accept the risk. But also when a CEO says things like the board aren’t happy with the SP, starting a SBB that then dries up with no reasons, and generally leaves the market unsure of what they are doing, then some blame gets laid at his feet. He can’t claim to have no ability to influence SP. That’s a total cop out. He is the face of the business.
