BYD will kill Tesla. Tesla's success comes down to the high price of the vehicles, and the status-symbol economy. The cost to manufacture an EV should be lower than an IC.
Those that can afford a new vehicle and that don't suffer from status anxiety will bounce on the more reasonable value alternative that BYD will bring.
BYD are investing heavily in sodium ion.
