Belmore I can share a lot what you just said but one issue that is different in Holland compared with the "newcomers" in Australia is the fact that a number of religious muslim leaders in Holland have been trying to stop our liberal laws to suit their believes.
Preaching against our liberal laws and trying to incite hatred is not something the dutch value from people who are invited in their society.
In cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam this has become a real issue as there are large muslim, mainly morroccan and Turkish populations.
No one yet has come up with the right solution to stop this from escalating into a more serious situation. But especially after the murder of Mr van Gogh by a muslim underlying tensions are being brought to the surface.
Politicians where on high alert after the assisination of Pim Fortuyn , but where relieved when the assisin turned out to be of Dutch origin , hereby avoiding a backlash towards people of the muslim fate.
For now solutions have not been found , but mullahs who are preaching against the dutch laws and inciting hatred willl be banned and if needed the mosk will be closed.
Now with the added problem of terrorism of some fanatical muslims the situation becomes even more complex.

Saying this I believe that the majority of the muslims in Holland are not being part of this.
To keep it that way strong action is needed to educate all parties involved and to erradicate muslim extremism in all its colours of Dutch society.
