aged care for a RN is a much easier task with predictable responsibilities and a much lower probability of having to do CPR or other lifesaving practices. in the 70s most aged care was done by "real" nurses plus a small number of Nurse Aids.
Now the certificated nursing assistants or carers have minimal skill sets, mostly involving personal hygiene, and RNs are largely a supervisory capacity. Even medication dispensing has been (dangerously) simplified to allow Enrolled Nurses to dispense pills from a Webster pack without needing to know what the pills are.
have you ever watched nurses busily dealing with critical events on a medical ward?
