Technically a flow test would also bring fluid samples to surface but a flow test is testing an interval not a point as is the case with a wireline formation tester. You also aren't able to monitor the fluid entering the downhole sampler in a test string as you can do with a formation tester (via optical fluid analyzer). If you perforate over a zone where a contact is not clear on the logs and you flow a mixture of hydrocarbons and water...all you've proved is what the logs are already telling you...ie there's a contact somewhere in there.
