Interesting article but i find it a bit hard to go along with what they are suggesting as a great solution.

Dean is clearly a smart guy and has worked his way up from humble beginnings,making a lot of his own luck and deserving of his success. Nice to learn this about him, adds to his cred but..

how is the govt going to attract migrants that have
the x factor that will emulate deans success?
Search for homeless people who have not finished their degrees ? There are many qualified people who don't excel and many less likely candidate who exceed and everthing in between. I can't see the formula they will use to filter out the gems, the proof has to be in the pudding as in deans case but by that stage they are already here.

The cliche is the immigrant taxi driver who is a dr or engineer but can't or won't get his quals recognised in this country because of red tape or family commitments etc.. so if there is any degree of truth in cliches like that all we have to do is draw out the talented people in them and put them into jobs or opportunity. We already have an untapped talent pool of potential Dean Tuck's in an uber car near you according to what they are saying. They have the education, talent, might have been homeless, poor or struggled at some point and have potential for great success.

I think the govt just wants immigrants of any description to prop up the housing bubble so they don't have to work so hard themselves and think of solutions to bring out the best of the existing population or grow the economy when reductions in national home equity and credit capacity meets economic downturn.

ok, sorry got offtopic and ended up ranting. Delete it if it bugs you I'm not bothered, but I had to say it.
