While this is interesting, one has to ask the question why
the producers of this purported cheap veggie oil has
not been making millions in the past by adding value.
Rudolph Diesel used peanut oil in his Paris Show
poineering diesel but it only ran 15 minutes due
to the fuel injection system becoming clogged
up due to impurities in the diesel
The demo above shows a quart of this home made diesel
being added to a tank of diesel which is not what one
could call a scientific demonstration of this brew vs
conventional high cetane mineral diesel.
Pot/Hyd simply wont filter out the damaging elements
lighter than oil/methane.
IMO he should have set up two identical engines;
one on his brew and the other on conventional diesel:
-measured the respective power outputs
-measured NOX gases
-run the engines for say 2000 hours.
-dismantled and measured wear, tear & clogging of fuel systems (if any)
I can add a quart of petrol or parafin to 60 litres of diesel and in the shorter term
there will be no appreciable performance difference.
In fact before injector and fuel system cleaners became populuar, the old timers would
occasionally add a gallon of petrol to a tank of diesel to clean the injectors
because this increases the combustion temps including the temp of injector tips
thereby cracking and ejecting surplus carbon build-ups.
BUT...if used too frequently or with too high a petrol dilution it will dramatically reduce
the life if the injectors due to over-heating.
IMO at this stage, the experiment seems to be a "Disallowed fix" at least from an economic
point of view.
Keep in mind that there is 65 c /litre tax on a $2.30 litre of diesel which is almost 30%
and, IMO, home made diesel (like grog and tobacco) if produced in quantity
will draw the attention of the Excise Inspectirs.
