Hold on, perhaps you've misinterpreted my reasoning.
My thesis is that more aircraft in the air correlates to more incidents. OK, we're seeing that coming out of the pandemic. What we don't know (but should be able to find out) is how many incidents there were in the decade prior to COVID. I know of two where the aircraft returned to the gate both departing Sydney and another departing Bangkok because I was on those flights. Both were pre-pandemic, yet neither got to the news reels. The stringent safety measures I mentioned ensure that a "cowboy culture" should never emerge, and that safety is always ahead of profit. Professional commercial pilots should never fly "on a wing and a prayer." On both those incidents as a passenger, the captain remarked that exact company policy, that safety is the prime initiative. I didn't mind being late because I'd prefer the issue be sorted and arrive safely.
I do see your point that the wider community will be concerned, but they certainly weren't with REX when parts of their aircraft fell out of the skies!
