The report provides an extremely thorough analysis of the various benefits and shortcomings of the current screening program...as we know there are a lot of shortcomings! The economic analysis is also very interesting. There is a preference for greater involvement of GPs and nurses.

Overall, the report is loaded with detailed information that indicates that a simple, low-cost, accurate screening blood test would be most welcome, and would fit into existing frameworks.

Overseas countries are mentioned whereby there is greater participation from GPs and nurses with regard to overseeing the test and triaging patients with positive results.

Combining the mail-out approach with opportunistic provision and return of kits through GPs, pharmacies and/or other trusted practitioners is suggested as an improvement. This is interesting because Colostat would also involve GP involvement.

Wait time for colonoscopy in Australia is flagged as a whopping 51 days on average, because the system is clogged up with unnecessary procedures, a huge problem for all involved. The associated potential harms of colonoscopy are also mentioned.

Disadvantages of the current program for disabled, First Nations and rural communities is detailed.

Page 34 section headed "The efficacy of emerging testing technologies should continue to be monitored" is of particular interest.
