As a fan of reducing carbon , I cringe when this completely unfair and illogical tax is brought up . It just provides ammunition for people who wish to deny the existence , or importance , of man made climate change .
Needs to be noted , it is a tax to reduce particulate and hydrocarbon pollution in cities , not a carbon reduction scheme . In fact , if you analyse its overall effect , it probably increases the carbon load on the planet by forcing the scrappage of of older cars . The fact that it is your classic ''let them eat cake '' situation for the poor , just adds to the depression.
Now , I have no problem with these types of controls where it matters , ie inner cities , but outside that , it is just piffle.
