Absolute scourge of the market worldwide.
A lot of people would disagree there - our resident self professed guru included - and argue that shorting is an integral part of the market and serves to “balance” where stock prices should be at any particular point in time.
Absolute bs if you ask me.
It’s just another ( almost totally ) unregulated rorting tool in the box of tricks of unscrupulous big players. Mostly using shares that they have borrowed from either another associated account or from another large institution with a nudge nudge wink wink and who will then logically sell some more of their own shares in the knowledge that the “borrower” is about to wreak havoc on the SP.
Good to hear that a few David’s are now doing battle with the Goliaths. And if there are enough of those battles and they are won in the courts the regulatory bodies will be pressured to actually start enforcing their “regulations”
How many companies have gone belly up because they have been a target and have seen their SP fall to ridiculous lows at a time when they need to raise capital to expand or simply to keep trading until they become profitable? How many retail investors have lost their pants because they panicked when their investment dropped heavily because of short selling?
Its just WRONG and in my opinion should be criminalised in any way shape or form and actually investigated properly when complaints are made.
If someone thinks a share price is too high then they can wait for a retrace and buy them after that if they think the fundamentals are good. Not borrow from their mates in the skyscraper across the road and force it down!!!! The market should decide when a company has been overbought.
