I have worked on individual contracts for a very limited number of employers over the last 30 years. I get (and provide when I have staff reporting to me) a performance review every single year. every single person get a performance review. I'm talking about 20,000 employees globally, salaried and hourly alike.

There is a salary increment percentage pool every year. some people get the pool amount, some people get less, some people get more. All based on performance.

It's a time consuming process, but it adds value to the culture, work environment and the overall business performance.

There are very few union sites and then generally only when mandated by the country where we are operating.

I work in the upstream O&G industry for a service company. I left Australia to work internationally in 1990, mainly due to having to work on union sites in Australia. I was actually part of the commissioning team for the first two LNG trains for WDS on the Burrup. We spent more time on strike than working, it really sucked. I'm a 5th generation Australian and I will never work in Australia again, but may live here when I retire. Maybe.

    my 2 cents, ymmv
