im melb born n bred and will never leave. luv AFL to death, despite the BS. also like RU,NFL,EURO + WC SOCCER,GAELIC - but i have no time for NRL - have tried watching it, betting on it, but it has zero appeal. i ignore it. the media coverage it gets here means i know who the clubs are, and some of the main players, but no idea who they play for or positions or achievements. i do appreciate the level of fitness they have to play that game.
whether this view is the same as most afl followers in southern states i dont know, but quite possible.
storm players have regular training & meetings with afl players - no doubt they talk and see many comparisons on all levels, apart from the game itself. BUT the storm players are clearly paid far less than their afl counterparts, and id suggest this would drive the players, and therefore their admin & managers, to try and achieve similar pay. hence the cap breaching.
ive argued several times here that NRL is lucky to survive, and does so only thru artificial support of news limited and channel 9. without it the cash would plummet and teams, if not the whole league fold & be consumed by RU.
