I don't know the history of NVX compared to many here, but I'd imagine they would have sent samples to many potential customers. Ultimately, if graphite (fines) and their spherical graphite derivatives take off as many predict (interestingly, traditionally premium priced large flake sizes will oversupply and be overtaken pricewise by fines due to EVs anode demand), it will be a repeat of the lithium boom and NVX will have no problem finding offtake partners. In fact, NVX might even get better terms when a shortage is on their side. Additionally, the anode producers/car markets etc might even have taken note of what happened in lithium and get in early to not miss out (as is happening for example with SYR's yet to be build spherical graphite plant with Ford/Tesla etc). Everyone is banking on the boom, even SYR isn't profitable right now.
