'Tis easy for Aussies to be smug about guns, we have been disarmed like a bunch of convicts, but the US has a different history.
We were able to gain self governance simply by asking, the US had a bloody Revolutionary War. Ever since they have had to fight to gain/keep freedom including the Civil War where white brother fought brother to free black slaves [among other things], then there were the Indian Wars, the Range Wars, the wild west where killers became heroes.
Let's not forget that the newly free USA sent their Marines to the Barbary Coast to clean up the pirates, something the Europeans wouldn't do.
The Yanks have been forced to solve every problem at the point of a gun. It has become habitual. By comparison Ned Kelly is, at best, a loveable rogue no one wants to emulate.
But listen to pop music. Would there be another country where murder and prison are served as staple fare? Bohemian Rhapsody just one of hundreds/thousands. Hollywood celebs are holier than thou but routinely serve up the most violent movies they can imagine.
Politics is the art of the possible and "gun control" as pictured by do-gooders is impossible. Start to think about SOLVING the problem and not making a political football out of it.
