Because it further de-risks the well. When your reservoir consists of a sequence of interbedded sands and shales and the sands are channel deposits there's a risk of not intersecting all the sands with a well...ie the well might intersect off channel shale deposits. 3D seismic allows imaging of the channels and lowers risk of not intersecting them.

Originally the Upper Angwa was thought to consist of a small number of sand/shale sequences with relatively thick basal sand units to each cycle as is the case in outcrop. Data from M1 indicates more cycles and thinner sand units
