The problem is that the more hardline GOP lawmakers will never give up a single millimeter of ground to sensible gun control measures. It's the hill that they're prepared to die on (figuratively speaking).
The fact that tens of thousands of their constituents literally die on that hill, every year....means absolutely bupkis to them.
Some states have introduced so called "Red Flag Laws"....which those same Republicans fight with every fibre of their beings.
