Not sure about the preoccupation with dividend - if you need money, just sell say 3% of your shareholding to 'pay yourself'. All I need is the share price to go significantly more than 3%,5%,10%,20% or even 100% to give me the $$ I need. If I need money, I will just sell shares to get my money back.
(Though I understand how dividends are required for superannuation companies etc)
