>.to inflict death and injury to as many human beings as possible,
Well, that really isn't true, rifles are used for hunting too.
Handguns are personal defence weapons, ie, their only purpose is shooting humans at close range.
So rifle = hunting animals and shooting people
handguns = shooting people
On top of that in the US there are way more deaths occurring due to these weapons that are designed only for shooting humans
Not sure I understand why if this is your concern you would be focusing on semi-automatic rifles.
> in the shortest possible time.
A semi-automatic rifle has the same rate of fire as a semi automatic handgun with the added advantage for the handgun of being easier to handle in close quarters, ie, indoors. They're also generally speaking faster to reload and handle, and have physically smaller ammunition which means more rounds can be carried by a single individual.
Oh, bonus round, you can hide a handgun and 45 rounds of ammunition on your person and have it basically undetectable.
So.. nope. Handguns are worse under that metric and they have additional advantages over rifles that make them worse.
>Which is why it has now become the preferred weapon of choice of America's urban mass shooters.
Source please. I don't think it's the "preferred choice". It's an occasional choice for some urban shooters. I don't think it has anything to do with the performance or design of the weapon itself.
There are very few mass shooting events where the specific benefits of a rifle - longer range - have been necessary. In fact some of the more deadly mass shootings, eg V tech, Columbine, have used small frame arms anyway. So again, you're not really making a good argument.
Handguns kill more people in the US
They are designed just for killing people
They're easier to conceal and wield in an urban shooting setting
But we're focusing on semi-automatic rifles for some reason. I'm still not sure why.
>It's a military style weapon that has no business being sold to civilians.
Which part of is military style, and, on top of that, why would that even be a problem?
