CSL112's development has always been based on a scientific theory, that because CSL112 shows signs that it removes cholesterol from arteries - that injecting it into people with severe heart disease will prevent them going to hospital and dying.

CSL112 early on showed that it was effective at removing cholesterol, that's not in dispute. But it needs to go through these large clinical trials with thousands of people to prove whether this translates into actually improving heart disease. There was zero evidence of this in the Phase 2b study, and they'd probably have interim data in the current large Phase 3 study that was originally due to complete mid-2022... suspect that they wanted to wait for the change in CEO to announce that it's probably not particularly effective, given the outgoing CEO decided to invest US$500m+ into these trials... but regardless of CEO they would have done it because they've a lot of cash.
