    Welcome to your Whaleback

    @tubedisasters

    The topography of Senay 5 is shown in the screenshot above as "meters elevation above sea level".

    The length of the yellow arrow (between contours 350 and 400m) is 70m, so the slope of the SE facing face is 45 degrees. The slope on the NW side is about 20 degrees.

    Since the lakes are not frozen and the cloud cover is minimal I know that the photo was taken in summer. (use Sentinel 2 to check typical conditions in the month of your choice). The NW side will be in shadow most of any summer day, whereas the SE side will face sunlight for 16 hours. ( URL1 ) ( URL2 )

    Now the satellite photo shows that there are light coloured flecks on the top and the sunlit side of Senay 5.

    But freshly fallen snow is generally dispersed, not in light coloured flecks.

    Retained/melting snow may be visible as light coloured flecks and preferentially retained where sunlight is weakest.

    So we would expect to see any retained snow on the NW side, if there is any at all.

    But there is NONE.

    Conclusion : definitely not snow on the sunny SE side !
