please excuse me if this post is elementary to our learned posters, but this might be of interest to others.
i am not well versed in o&g matters so i took a bit of time to check out well drills.
lockyer 2 was advised at the agm as being an appraisal well.
ned1 was advised as being exploratory.
i wanted to know the difference between exploratory wells and appraisal wells, so here are my findings ......
"The first step in producing gas is finding gas in the earth. Geologists examine the local area and make an initial assessment about the likelihood of gas being underground. Then, a decision is made about whether it makes economic sense to pursue it. They follow up with more in depth examinations, for example with a seismic survey that looks at the rocks underground. They figure out if the rocks are likely to contain gas and if so, how much. If the signs all look good, the gas company will drill an exploration well. This well is used to find out if gas really is present, and if so, how far down. If the exploration well results are promising, the gas company will drill an appraisal well. If not, the company will proceed immediately to decommissioning and rehabilitation. An appraisal well is used to test the flow rate. It’s one thing to find gas underground, it’s another to extract it. If the gas flows too slowly the well would not be economically viable, because the cost of machinery, equipment and staff is high. If the appraisal well results are promising, the gas company proceeds to developing the gas field, and if not, the gas company proceeds immediately to decommissioning and rehabilitation"
so, could it be argued that MIN knows more than what the 2D and flows from the first drill mean [and only our board and CE know] and has gone for appraisal for lockyer 2 instead of exploratory, or does it make sense to just to go with what the 2D and flows from drill 1 mean?
again, apologies if i am showing my ignorance but i hope that some others may appreciate the above information!!
