I see both sides of the argument. Getting your investment into a free-carried state on stocks that you have confidence in for the long term takes away alot of human emotion away from your investment. I try and get all my long-term investments into a free-carried state to then allow me to forget and concentrate on my shorter-term trades. I do however undrstand where jevalent is coming from. The raw notion of 'free-carried' is nonsensical in the sense that, regardless of your past gains or losses, the future is about where you can gain the most for the least risk according to your risk profile.
