The As numbers written on the RC chip trays will most likely be from the lab assays % As in the 1m geochemical split sample, at these depths, in fresh rock and in this area the Arsenic is most likely hosted in Arseopyrite (the mineral). - Arseonpyrite contains approx 46% Arsenic by weight with the rest of that mineral being Iron and Sulfur). So that chip tray interval 220-221m depth says As= 1.6% As and 96.7g/T Au, would be expected to have approximately 3.2% Arseonpyrite the mineral by weight in that 1m interval that was sent to the lab (and also a gold grade of 96.7g/T or 96.7ppm Au).

The % sign strongly implies a later geochemical assay result, which then gets written on the chip trays as a reference for future logging and interpretation, sometimes pyrite and arsenopyrite are difficult to distinguish from each other - especially in the small RC chip sample volumes in that chip tray. In logging and if estimating mineral percentages most geologists will refer to Apy as the mineral Arseonpyrite, and As the element Arsenic in a whole rock/sample geochemical term to save confusion/discriminate between mineral percentages visually logged (which can be very inaccurate), and geochemical assay results (which are usually accurate).

On the rig you will be logging the mineral percentages and the geologist there knows that Arsenopyrite and Pyrite minerals are often associated with gold, so they will be sending any 1m sample intervals decent/visually identifieable pyrite and arsenopyrite minerals off to the lab for a proper assay for gold and other elements. You might have to wait a few weeks for the results from the assays. Portable XRF units can reliably and semi-accurately detect most base metals like Cu Pb Zn and As in RC chips in the 100ppm up to 3% range, but the XRF is not good at detecting gold directly.
