The evidence for evolution grows by the day. Evolution is no longer a theory, it is FACT beyond any reasonable doubt. The Archbishop of Canterbury has no problem with evolution, nor does the Pope. It is only the ill-informed and uneducated (in terms of evolution) who do not understand evolution.
Many creationists hold the ridiculous view that the world was created around 10,000 years ago (even some politicians to my disbelief!) and that we are descended from Adam and Eve.
Evidence shows that the first forms of man emerged between 4.5 to 6 MILLION years ago. And no, we did not descend from monkeys. We share a common ancestor. No animal gives birth to an instant new species. The changes are gradual and indiscernable to the naked eye. There are many fossil records of man-and all much much older than 10,000 years! Evolution is beautiful and perfect.
The bible unfortunately is a collection of stories written 400 years after the death of Jesus Christ-ever played Chinese whispers? (I believe Jesus did exist but only as a mortal - he was elevated to the level of 'supernatural' in the time of Constantine by those in power). It is not a perfect book of love, you only need to read the first testament to see this. You can't cherrypick only the good bits from the bible. Where is God anyway, he supposedly created the world in 7 days but since then has gone into retirement. Would you sit in a cloak of invisibility while your children raped and killed one another?
Having a belief in something, no matter how nice, safe or comfortable it makes you feel unfortunately does not make it true. We need to enjoy, live and love life in the here and now on this wonderful planet instead of believing something better will come when we die.
