I've read a lot of old newspapers over the past 15 years with a sports research project I do but I do stop and read various articles from time to time and newspaper reporters reported the news as facts pure and simple no spin no commentary no sensationalism this was reserved for editorials & gossip columns it was just the facts of what happened. Sometime after WW2 things started to change through the 50's & 60's where the raw facts started to become less important to the story it was to provide a story to the reader not reporting the news as the facts. Newspaper reporters today aren't reporting news they are telling a story along with whatever bias they or their employers have.
