yeah. It boggles my mind why we aren't further along. DC from my understanding has approached those markets, I think via POSCO and whatever arrangements they have. POSCO has prev stated they see 50-50 mix natural-synth (Ann last yr from memory).
With the quantity of graphite needed per EV, there should be a much larger current demand than is evident based on existing off take agreements. Or as you suggest, this is currently provided by synth material which is keeping up with demand.
Consumers and manufacturers both want cheaper vehicles, so what's stopping natural graphite growing? Is the cost of and amount of graphite material in a battery immaterial to its overall cost?
