the government is, on behalf of the people, asking for a share of the super profit these mining companies have been making. It is not a case of "less profit", it is a case of less super profit.
What is super profit will be further defined as a result of discussions with the mining sector, I feel.
At the present time, there are good demands for our mineral resources, profits will still be made.
Big mining companies who already have their big investments in this country cannot just pack and go. Their management will continue to do their job and produce profitable results for their shareholders.
Any government has the sovereign right to introduce laws for the benefits of the nation. If they people do not like what the government is doing, they can always vote it out.
Tony Abbott has said that the coalition will oppose the tax, but he has not promised that, in the event the tax passes parliament and in the event the coalition wins government, he will revoke the tax when in government. So, where does he stand on that ?
