I tend to agree with you - the fundamentals of a company are what is important - charting however does have an impact as the "pretty lines" do influence a lot of traders and shareholders to the extent that they can become self fulfilling in terms of sentiment movement all too often - chartists see a particular trend and react accordingly, many investors are aware that a particular trend will influence market movement and they react accordingly.
